Independence Day celebrated with patriotic fervour

JAMMU, Aug 13: Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour and joy.
Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu and Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages jointly organized “Jashn-e-Azadi”—a folk Music and Dances programme today at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu.  Prof RD Sharma Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu was the chief guest and Sangeeta Gupta, Principal Commissioner, Income Tax Department was the guest of honour. Prof Pankaj K Srivastava Dean Students Welfare, University of Jammu and Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages were also present. As many as 100 folk artists drawn from all corners of Jammu Division were invited to showcase the diverse folk forms of culture of Jammu Division. The parties which participated were Krishan Lal and Party from Reasi (Kud), Raj Kumar and Party from Dansal (Haran Dance), Girdhari Lal Bhagtiya and Party from Arniya (Bhagtiya), Mohan Lal and Party (Jattar), Preeto Devi and Party from Kotli (Jagarna), Rattan Dogra and Party from Jammu (Phumniyan), Kumari Saras Bharti and Party from Ramnagar (Geetru) and Darshan Kumar and Party from Ghou Manasan (Punjabi Folk Song Mitti Da Bawa).
Delhi Public School, Jammu celebrated the Independence Day to pay homage to freedom fighters and revolutionaries. To commemorate the sovereignty of our nation’s tricolour balloons were released in the air by Principal, Headmistress, Admin Members and Coordinators. Many cultural programmes were organized on the eve of Independence Day. To keep alive the flame of patriotism, the students of Pre-primary wing performed a patriotic dance. The students also rendered a patriotic song that awakened everyone’s feelings towards our motherland. Headmistress, DPS Jammu, Meenu Gupta, Principal, DPS Jammu, Ruchi Chabra, staff and students were present on the occasion.
JP World School organized a colourful programme to celebrate Independence Day. Students from junior and senior wing presented outstanding performances, with the patriotic zeal and fervour. After that there was also an extra ordinary performance given by the music teacher Sahil and student of class XI. Chairperson, Choudhary Charitable Trust School Trustee Ashok Singh and Principal SG Chatter threw light on the importance of the day.
The Independence Day was celebrated by the staff and students of Alexander Memorial School. Principal Esther William hoisted the National Flag and highlighted the importance of the day. The school choir presented the patriotic songs. TN Kaul, Senior Master, SK Munshi, School Co-ordinator, staff and students were present on the occasion.
Delhi Public School, Udhampur celebrated Independence Day on August 13, by saluting the nation and its freedom fighters on the eve of 69th independence Day, the management, staff and students of DPS, Udhampur marked the occasion by holding a unique cultural programme highlighting the importance of the freedom struggle. Chairman Dr JC Gupta was also present.
Independence Day was celebrated at KC Gurukul Public School with great pomp and show. On this historic occasion school children had the good fortune to participate in varied, colourful patriotic songs and dances. The week began on August 8 to nurture young children with respect and pride for mother India and to do the best for our nation. A special assembly was organized where students and teachers expressed their love and affection towards the country. A display of banners with social and national messages was sent across the school premises. A quiz and drawing activity were organized for the primary section students whereas Rangoli and Debate activity was organized for senior section students. Tricolour badges were made by the tiny toddlers which spread the message of courage, peace and faith that tricolor depicts. Vijay Puri in her speech threw light on the importance of the day.
SD Tara Puri Public High School celebrated Independence Day with fervour and enthusiasm in the school premises. Students presented patriotic poems, followed by speeches by the students of higher classes. Patriotic songs were sung on this special day. Vice Principal Saroj Goel threw light on the significance of this great day. Principal Neeru Puri was also present.
The Independence Day was celebrated with great pomp and show at APS BD Bari. The programme commenced with the flag hoisting ceremony by Brig Yashpal Singh, Chairman APS BD Bari along with Principal of the school. Students were shown documentary on the Indo-Pak war of 1965 which was followed by speeches offering felicitations to the Indian Armed Forces for the commendable work done by them in protecting the country from internal and external dangers.
May Fair Schools celebrated Independence Day at Chand Nagar and Janipur branches. Chairman Vijay Basur, School Director Abhay Basur and Principal Ranjeet jointly unfurled the National Flag, followed by National Anthem. Various colourful items were presented by the students.
Doon International School celebrated Independence Day with fervour and zeal. The students were attired in tricolour dresses with flags in their hands. The students presented a colourful cultural programme. Chairman, GN Tantray said that freedom is not only the secret of happiness but also the secret of courage. Principal, Vikesh Kaur, Gurdeep Kaur and Priyanka Singh were also present.
Rashtriya Rifles Battalion under Romeo Force organized inter school dance competition at LKG for the children from remote villages of Poonch district. Children from four schools participated in the dance competition on the theme “Patriotism”. Approximately 450 people including 250 students, Sarpanchs, Numberdars and Teachers from Jhullas, Salotri, Bhagiot, Ghani, Khanetar and Salani graced the function. The children gave scintillating performances. Based on their performance Jhullas High School was adjudged the best team for the group dance with the theme on “Unity in Cultural Diversity of Poonch”. Farid Akhtar, School Principal was also present.
Jam packed auditorium of Government College for Women echoed with melodious Folk Tunes of neighbouring States Punjab and Himachal when Radio Kashmir Jammu presented to its audience a live Folk Music Evening “Sangeet Utsav” in connection with its elaborate celebrations on Independence Day. After the traditional lighting of the lamp by DDG (E) KK Singh, Station Director Radio Kashmir Jammu VK Sambyal while welcoming the audience exhorted the young to give their best to the nation.

As a prelude to the Independence Day celebration, the Army organized a extravagant event with pomp and gaiety at Rakh Muthi Military Station.  The gala event was enthusiastically attended by the veterans with families, blooming buds of the nation and the serving soldiers with families. The event unfolded with a warm welcome to the spectators on the auspicious occasion followed by spectacular display of Pipe Band by the flamboyant Army Jawans and the loyal dogs of the Army Dog Unit.  The event later witnessed the might of the Indian Army through a display of Artillery gun in action followed by weapon and equipment display by the Infantry and the Mechanised Forces. The extravaganza concluded with a joy ride by the children on the Armoured vehicles.
