SRINAGAR, Sept 27: An independent MLA alongwith several Sarpanchs and Panchs besides others today staged a dharna, demanding mercy for Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, release of Kashmiris detained in different jails across the country and withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).
MLA from Langate in the frontier district of Kupwara, Engineer Abdul Rashid alongwith about 35 Sarpanchs and Panchs besides others appeared at Regal Chowk near here.
They sat on the road holding banners, demanding mercy to Afzal Guru.
They also demanded release of all Kashmiri detenues in different across the country and withdrawal of AFSPA from the State.
Er Rashid has also moved a resolution in the State Assembly last year seeking mercy to Afzal Guru. However, the resolution could not be taken up because of uproar in the House, forcing Speaker to adjourn the House. (UNI)
