India awaits Pak response on power supply

NEW DELHI, Dec 3:
India is awaiting response from Pakistan on the proposal to supply 500 MW electricity to the neighbouring nation, a Government official said today.
Pakistan will have to purchase electricity from India at the market price, the official added.
In June this year, both the sides held discussions on the proposal during an Indian delegation’s visit to Pakistan.
A senior Power Ministry official said the Government was awaiting response from Pakistan on the issue. Discussions were held on the modalities to have transmission links between the two nations for power supply.
In recent times, Pakistan has been grappling with severe power shortages, which had also become a major issue during the general polls that was won by Nawaz Sharif-led PML-N.
India has an installed power generation capacity of more than 2,25,000 MW and expects to add over 80,000 MW in the current Five-Year Plan ending March 2017. (PTI)
