JAMMU, Jan 27: India and China have committed themselves to maintenance of peace and tranquility along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh sector and build on mutual feeling to uphold agreements and protocols signed between the two countries from time to time.
This was decided at Indo-China Border Personnel (BPM) meeting held at Indian BPM hut in Chushul sector of Eastern Ladakh yesterday on the occasion of India’s Republic Day.
The Brigade Commander level BPM was attended by Brigadier JKS Birk from Indian side and Senior Colonel Fanjum of Chinse People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
“The BPM decided to enhance existing cordial relations between the two countries and maintaining peace along LAC. The two sides also sought to build on mutual feeling to uphold agreements and protocol signed between the Governments of two sides to maintain peace and tranquility along LAC in Ladakh sector,” official sources said.
The delegation members from both sides saluted national flag, which was followed by ceremonial address by the heads of the delegations. They exchanged greetings, best wishes and mutual desire to enhance border defence cooperation.
“Both the delegations interacted in free, congenial and cordial environments. The meeting ended amid feeling of friendship,” sources said.
Worthwhile to mention here that frequent incursions by the PLA have gone down considerably in Ladakh sector during the past few months.
Meanwhile, Indo-Pak troops also exchanged sweets and greetings on the occasion of India’s Republic Day at Chakan-Da-Bagh on Poonch-Rawlakote route in Poonch sector and Roshni Post in Mendhar sector yesterday.
Two Army officers and seven jawans attended the sweets exchange ceremony from the Indian side at Chakan-Da-Bagh in Poonch sector while two army officers from Pakistan with one JCO and six jawans joined the ceremony.
Pakistan side comprised Major Shehzad Ahmed and Lt Rahez.
Sources said the sweets exchange ceremony lasted half an hour from 10.30 am onwards.
At Roshni Post in Mendhar sector, two Army officers, two JCOs and 22 jawans attended the sweets exchange ceremony from the Indian side while Pakistan side was led by Major Parvez and Capt Assan and comprised one JCO and 16 jawans.
The ceremony lasted 40 minutes.
However, no such ceremony was held on the International Border (IB) in Jammu sector between BSF and Rangers in view of tension on the border due to mortar shelling and firing by the Rangers early this month in which two BSF jawans and a woman were killed and 10 other civilians were injured.
The tension has still not ended on the borders as Pakistan continued to open firing intermittently on the border.
