India-China face off: Omar asked why we withdrew our troops

SRINAGAR :  Expressing satisfaction over peaceful end of the India-China face-off in Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today wanted to know why “we have also pulled back our troops from our own land.”
“I am glad that the stand off with China over its incursion in Daulat Beg Oldi sector on Line of Actual Control (LAC) was resolved peacefully,” Mr Abdullah told reporters at Civil Secretariat, seat of the government on the opening of Darbar Move office in summer capital,  Srinagar.
He said the diplomatic means adopted by the Government of India (GoI) on the issue achieved the desired results.
Mr Abdullah, however, said, If media reports are correct, we need a clarification from the GoI as to why we pulled our troops from the area which belongs to us.
I wonder why we have agreed to pull out our troops asked. China had entered our area when we were in our own area. “we want a clarification from Home Ministry.”
Mr Abdullah said there had been regular incursions from China on LAC in the Ladakh region.
However, this time troops from China remained on this side of the LAC for more than 19 days.
He hoped that Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah, critically injured in an attack in Jammu jail, will survive, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said that time-bound inquiry into the attack on him (Sanaullah) will bring out the truth.
“I am not going to share any initial inquiry findings in the attack on Sanaullah in Jammu jail recently,” Mr Abdullah  said.
The attack on Pak prisoner by another prisoner in the jail was very unfortunate and disturbing, he said and expressed hope that Sanaullah will survive.
He said a number of jail officials were placed under suspension and time bound inquiry by Principal Secretary to Government, Home Department, Suresh Kumar has been ordered in the incident.
In reply to a question, he said though he had received initial findings about the incident, but he was not going to share with media anything because of past experience.
“I have in the past shared the initial findings of inquiry report in the death of two women in Shopian, but it was later used against me,” he said.
“This time I will be more cautious and not share anything untill full report is available on the incident,” he added.
The Chief Minister said that Minister of State for Home has directed that proper protection should be provided to all Pakistani prisoners in different jails in the Jammu and  Kashmir.
“We have kept Pakistani prisoners separately to avoid such unfortunate incident in future,” he said. (agencies)
