India, China look for increased cooperation despite unresolved issues

NEW DELHI :  While noting down some problems in her relationship with China, India today said the destiny of both the countries was intertwined and cooperation at bilateral and multilateral fora was in fundamental interest of both the countries and Asia as a whole.

Speaking after inaugurating the first edition of the India-China Media Forum here, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said India had an undefined boundary with China which from time to time seemed to give insurmountable problems, but both the countries were fully resolved to solve the issue.

Mr Khurshid also flagged the issue of unfavourable trade balance with China stressing the need to make it sustainable, but at the same time noted the close cooperation between the two countries in working for a just global trade regime.

The question was, he said,”will we see us as rivals and competitors or in a multidimensional role sharing and caring for  each other.”

He said the dream of the 21st century belonging to Asia would remain unfulfilled unless India and China find concurrence on major issues.

In this context, Mr Khurshid emphasised that media could play a

vital role in enhancing trust between the two countries.

Language, which makes communication possible could remove cobwebs of misconceptions, he added.

Minister of the State Council Inoformation Office of China Cal Mingzhao in his remarks also underscored the importance of the media in strengthening the bridge between the two countries.

“Friendly and pragmatic cooperation is in the fundamental interest of both countries and of Asia,” said Mr Cal. (AGENCIES)
