NEW DELHI: India on Friday “strongly condemned” Pakistan for its continued and unprecedented ceasefire violation and said its violation of ceasefire is in effect aimed at helping terrorists infiltrate into India.
The senior officials in MEA also ruled out any meeting on the sidelines between Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi at Davos next week.
“We very strongly condemn the continued and unprecedented ceasefire violation by Pakistan which has caused loss of lives and properties….our sincere condolences to the families of those affected in the incidents.
You are aware that Pakistan violates ceasefire as a cover to infiltrate terrorists into India,” MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar told reporters here.
“We of course retaliate in such cases and also take up the matter at the appropriate level with Pakistani side,” he said adding “what has happened will be responded in a befitting manner”.
“….uska hum muh tod jawab denge (We will respond adequately),” Mr Kumar said. The Secretary Economic Relations, Vijay Gokhale, who is also new Foreign Secretary designate, meanwhile ruled out Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with his Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi at Davos on January 23-24 during the Annual World Economic Forum at Davos.
“As far as I know no meeting is planned (between Mr Modi and Mr Abbasi),” Mr Gokhale said. (AGENCIES)
