BENGALURU,  Sept 24: Hailing the success of Mars Orbit Mission “MOM”, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences,  MoS in PMO Personnel, Pensions, Grievances, Atomic Energy and Space, said that with the success of today’s Mission, India has emerged a “space” leader and has assumed world leadership  in the field of Space Technology.
For most of us in India,Dr Jitendra Singh said,Mars atonce simultaneously conjures up feelings of astronomy, astrology, romance and mythology , and therefore the success of “Mangal” expedition has instantly got entrenched in our ethos.
He personally congratulated the Chairman of ISRO, Dr.K. Radhakrishnan and conveyed his thanks to entire scientist-fraternity saying that as the Minister in-charge of Space Technology, it is a matter of pride for him that during his brief tenure under the patronage of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the department has accomplished two major achievements ,the earlier one being successful launch of PSLV-23.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said that while PSLV-23 initiated India into an era of space marketing, the success of ‘MOM’ has put the country in the forefront of space technology.
Following the success of today’s mission, he said that this will inspire Indian Scientists to venture into other planets like Venus and at the same time explore the atmospheric configuration on the Mars and work out the possibility of living habitat over there.
He said that after being assigned the Ministry of Science & Technology, he has also tried to bring about technology of the various Space Departments under him. For example, he said, he had advocated use of satellite mapping to detect thefts from mines involving thorium and other nuclear-related minerals in South India.. On the same analogy, he has also advised satellite mapping by ISRO experts to detect location and extent of road damage in flood-hit areas of Jammu & Kashmir, he added.
