India is secular, everyone has right to live, Dy CM on Prachis statement

SRINAGAR : Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today witnessed an uproar for sometime after opposition Members demanded that the House condemn the alleged statement of VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi’s that it was time to make India free of Muslims.
Immediately after the House met to take up the Question-Hour, Er Rashid, an Independent Member from Langate in the frontier district of Kupwara, raised the issue of ‘anti-Muslim’ statement by the VHP leader.
Er Rashid was joined by the members from main opposition National Conference (NC) and Congress, demanding that the House condemn the ‘anti-Muslim’ statement of Prachi.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh of BJP immediately intervened and said the statement has not been authenticated.”India is a secular country and everyone has right to live”, he said the statement of Prachi is not right.
Later normalcy returned in the House. The Legislative Council (LC) witnessed similar scenes yesterday when NC member Shehnaz Ganai raised the issue. However, the state government has termed the comments wrong, saying the country was incomplete without Muslims.
Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar, who was present in the Upper House, stood up and said the country was incomplete without Muslims.
“The report has been carried by newspapers. Whosoever said it, it is wrong. Muslims are a part of the country and it is incomplete without them. Muslims have to live in the country as equal stakeholders. There is no need to divide this House,” he said.
Asking the Opposition to allow the government to work for the development of the state, he said, “We should not be provoked into a divisive tit for tat match. We all have to live in this country as equal stake-holders.”
The Sadhvi, who is known not to shy away from controversies, had on June 7 said she is working on getting rid of Muslims from the country. “Now that we have achieved the mission of making a Congress-free India, it is time to make India, Muslim-free. We are working on that,” she had reportedly said. (AGENCIES)
