NEW DELHI, Sept 24:
India and New Zealand today discussed ways to give boost to bilateral cooperation in key areas, including trade and investment and science and technology.
During the Foreign Office consultations in Wellington, New Zealand, the two sides also exchanged views on regional and global issues, a Ministry of External Affairs release said here.
The Indian delegation was led by Sanjay Singh, Secretary (East) in the MEA and the New Zealand delegation was led by John Allen, Chief Executive and Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
“During the talks, the two delegations discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and global issues. Relations between the two countries in the areas of trade and investment, education, science and technology, cultural affairs and people-to-people cooperation were among the topics on which there was an exchange of views,” it said.
Bilateral trade has been growing steadily reaching nearly USD 1.268 billion in 2010 and has crossed USD one billion up to October 2011. There are about 110,000 people of Indian origin in New Zealand.
Prior to the consultations, Singh called on Murray McCully, Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand. (PTI)
