SRINAGAR, Dec 7: CPI(M) leader and Kulgam MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami today asked India and Pakistan to end border hostilities and initiate a meaningful dialogue process for stability in the south Asian region.
Tarigami said the present hostile environment in the sub-continent, which has the potential to undermine peace and add to the miseries of the common people, must change, and for that a new initiative is the need of the hour.
Tarigami said India and Pakistan, as two major countries of the region, have to adopt a sensible approach and realise that war or violence in any form, will not only be futile but will also destabilise the region. The brunt will be borne by the poor toiling masses and the under-privileged, he said.
The Communist leader said ignoring the “political essence of the Kashmir issue” by the Central Government and non-initiation of an unconditional dialogue with all shades of Kashmiri leadership is “unfortunate” and will result in complicating the problem.
The Chief Minister (Mehbooba Mufti) who came to power on the slogan of healing touch should immediately review Public Safety Act (PSA), release political prisoners especially the old, sick and the minors, he demanded.
“In addition a comprehensive rehabilitation process should be initiated so that the victims of pellets, bullets and tear gas shells can get adequate and special treatment,” he said.
The CPI(M) convention resolved to launch a consistent struggle in favour of addressing political aspirations of the people by Central and state Governments.
