JAMMU, Oct 16: Stressing that peace is the only way for resolution of any dispute in the world, Sheikh Abdul Rehman Ex-MP and Senior Vice-President Bharat Bangladesh Pakistan People’s Forum Indian Chapter, before leaving for Kolkata to attend a two days Peace Seminar said that instead of demanding favours from big powers like USA or China in helping to solve their problems, the Pakistan and India should put down their heads and resolve their bi-lateral issues in a peaceful manner.
Referring to the political scenario past abrogation of Articles 370 and 35-A, Rehman said that reducing full-fledged status of J&K to Union Territory tantamount to reducing it to mere Municipality. He added that snatching all administrative powers and handing them over to Home Ministry, Government of India, is a great tragedy with our democratic system because in a federal system in Union of India, all states want more powers for speedy all round development.
Appreciating Kashmir people for adopting Gandhian philosophy of non-violence past abrogation of Articles 370 and 35-A, Rehman said that though people have right to protest and agitate against losses constitutionally guaranteed to them, yet the peaceful and non-violent way adopted by people of valley for last 73 days is highly appreciated.
As regards to Block Development Council elections in the State for IInd Tier of J&K Panchayati Raj, Rehman said that conducting said election in last week of October instead of November is a clear political gimmick hoodwinking the masses and deprive them of the benefit of the provisions of 73rd amendment of Indian constitution just to benefit the BJP, adding that this exercise is a complete mockery with the democracy and democratic institutions and is mainly to benefit the BJP alone.
