JAMMU, Nov 18: In what can be described as major setback to Pakistan, the National Investigating Agency (NIA) has gathered enough evidence during investigations in August 5 terror attack at Narsu, Samroli in Udhampur district on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway to nail Pakistan not only in this particular attack but also its role in other terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
“During nearly three and half month long investigations, we have come across enough evidence gathered from Pakistani militant Mohammad Naved, other arrested accused and through scientific investigations that would clearly establish role of Pakistan not only in Narsu terror attack but also its involvement in other subversive activities,’’ official sources told the Excelsior.
They said the NIA teams headed by Investigations Incharge Atul Goel, SSP, have focused a lot on Pakistan role in the terror attack and gathered enough evidence—both documentary and technical—that would establish involvement of Pakistan in Narsu attack in which two BSF jawans were killed and several others injured. Naved was captured alive by the people while his Pakistani colleague Mohammad Momen was killed in retaliatory firing by the BSF.
Sources said during sustained questioning and cross examination of seven accused arrested in the case so far including Naved, the NIA has succeeded in extracting name of important functionaries of Pakistan including officials of Army and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), who were instrumental in training both Momen and Naved and then pushing them into Kashmir to carry out the terror attacks.
“We are now in possession of complete history of Naved and Momen starting from August 2011 to June 2, 2015 when they entered into the Kashmir Valley from Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara sector. The period in between established Pakistan’s clear cut involvement in the terror attack at Narsu,’’ sources said.
The camps, where the two Pakistani militants were trained, their location, handlers and Pakistan Army and ISI officials, who passed instructions to them, were all with the NIA, which was possible due to scientific investigations carried out by the investigating agency.
“Even the NIA has managed to gather telephone numbers of some of the handlers of Naved and Momen in Pakistan apart from their family members,’’ sources said, adding all these revelations will be mentioned in the charge-sheet to be filed by the NIA before the court of law to expose Pakistan before the world.
According to sources, the Global Positioning System (GPS), wireless sets and compass used by the Pakistani militants were also in possession of the NIA and they have proved very useful in exposing Pakistan’s role in the terror network, mainly Narsu attack.
“The training of militants in Pakistan, names of the camps, the militants who trained them, the route taken by the duo to infiltrate into the Kashmir Valley from Pakistan, have also been gathered with the help of scientific and technical investigations conducted into the case,’’ sources said.
The militants had been trained specifically in the fidayeen attacks in the Pakistani camps.
Noting that the Over Ground Workers (OGWs), who were in custody of the NIA and had helped militants in shelter, movement, concealing their arms etc have also given useful clues during questioning, sources said their disclosures have also established role of Pakistani in the terror attack.
Momen and Naved had attacked the BSF vehicle at Narsu in the wee hours of August 5 after travelling in a truck from the Kashmir Valley, killing two BSF jawans and injuring several others. The BSF had gunned down Momen in retaliatory firing while people had captured alive Naved.
