India, US review bilateral relations: MEA

NEW DELHI, Nov 27:
US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman and Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai today reviewed the entire expanse of bilateral relations, including cooperation in defence and fight against terrorism besides issues relating to implementation of the Indo-US civil nuclear agreement.
Ms Sherman was here as part of regular consultations between the US and India. She also called on the External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and and National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon, officials here said.
Mr Khurshid drew attention to the importance of addressing the issues relating to Indian professionals in the US, especially matters relating to visas. Ms Sherman assured him that her country was committed to working on the issue.
In the meeting, between Ms Sherman and the Foreign Secretray, the two sides took stock of the ongoing efforts to implement the Indo-US civil nuclear agreement.
During their discussions on regional issues, Ms Sherman explained the US’ rebalancing towards Asia. There was a discussion of developments in Afghanistan, including the road map to the transition envisaged in 2014. (PTI)
Both the sides agreed that economic development needs to be focussed on in Afghanistan.
Ms Sherman in visiting Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan after her visit to India.
The situation in West Asia in the light of developments in Syria and violence in Gaza was also discussed during the meeting. Foreign Secretary underscored Indian interest in importing LNG from US.(PTI)
She also thanked India’s efforts in ensuring that getting the US admitted to IOR-ARC as an dialogue partner.
Ms Sherman also conveyed condolences on the anniversary of 26/11.
