NEW DELHI, July 4: Communications and IT Minister Kapil Sibal today said India and Vietnam have set up a six member joint committee to chalk out a roadmap for collaboration in the field of information and communications technology.
“…We have set up a joint committee comprising six persons, representative each from the Department of telecommunications, Deity as well as Posts…
…And they (Vietnam) will nominate three people and within two months they will chalk out a roadmap of collaboration for the future,” Sibal said after meeting Vietnamese Minister for Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son.
The Minister also asked his Vietnamese counterpart to set up an electronics cluster in the country in the form of a city.
“We have suggested that they should set up an electronics cluster in the form of a city…And they have kindly agreed that proposal,” Sibal said.
Asked about the amount of investment Vietnam has committed for the proposal, Sibal said the roadmap for investment will be set once the joint committee meets.
“They said they welcome the idea of the business community investing in India in the electronics cluster side but I think the roadmap for that will be set once the joint committee meets and they set out specific programmes through which this collaboration will take place,” he added.
The countries also signed two MoUs for partnership in the field of communications.
“Two MoUs have been signed… Vietnam has great strengths in hardware…But they now want to become a software superpower and they need collaboration with us on the software side and we have invited them to collaborate with us on the hardware side,” he said. (PTI)
