India will lead fourth Industrial Revolution – Pradhan

BHUBANESHWAR, Dec 28 : Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated that as a knowledge-based society with a growing economy, India is poised to lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Addressing the 12th and 13th joint convocations of IIT Bhubaneswar on Saturday, Pradhan said, “We are now in Industrial Revolution 4.0. We must take ownership of this revolution and become employers and innovators.”

Pradhan highlighted Odisha’s rich heritage as evidence of India’s deep scientific foundation. He mentioned the Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath Temple in Puri, the Prabhu Lingaraj Temple, and the Sun Temple at Konark-all constructed before the start of the Industrial Revolution.

“The first ray of the sun falls on the Sun Temple of Konark, showcasing exceptional engineering skills. This is a testament to our achievements,” he said. “As India emerges as an economic superpower, we must shift from job-seeking to job-creating.”

Pradhan emphasized that IIT Bhubaneswar should be developed into a hub for teaching, research, and innovation to help achieve the target of India’s economy reaching 5 to 7 trillion USD. He added that through this, IIT students can contribute significantly to building a developed Odisha and a developed India.

He further said that Indian civilization has always taken global leadership and responsibility. India is now the world’s fifth-largest economy and will soon become the third-largest.

Citing expert opinions, Pradhan said that India’s economy is projected to grow to 5 to 7 trillion USD shortly. “At this crucial time, we must explore new knowledge as the 21st century is defined by a knowledge-based economy,” he added.

Pradhan urged the graduates to focus on becoming employers and active contributors to building a developed India and Odisha instead of merely seeking jobs.
