Indian Navy rescues Palau vessel; provides medical assistance to injured crew member

 

NEW DELHI, Feb 24: The Indian Navy yet again displayed courage and its commitment towards safety and security of merchant and seafarers and rescued a Palau flagged merchant vessel ‘MV Islander’, that was caught  fire after a possible drone or missile attack.

According to an Indian Navy statement, after receiving a distress call, the Indian Navy’s destroyer mission deployed in the Gulf of Aden for maritime security operations, came in the vicinity of the vessel. The incident took place on Thursday.

The Indian Navy’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) specialists embarked the vessel and sanitised it for any residual risk. After that the vessel was cleared for onward transit.

A medical team was also pressed into service which provided medical assistance to an injured crew member, the statement added. (UNI)
