JAMMU, Mar 3: In a distressing turn of events, Sahil Verma, a sailor serving in the Indian Navy, mysteriously disappeared from his ship in Mumbai on February 27th, 2024, leaving his family in Jammu distraught.
The incident, shrouded in ambiguity, has sparked outrage among relatives, who alleged negligence on the part of the Naval authorities.
As per information, Sahil Verma, hailing from Ghou Manhasan, Marh, Jammu, was reportedly not accounted for on February 27th, yet his family was only notified by Naval authorities two days later, on February 29th.
Gautam Verma, Sahil’s maternal uncle from Hiranagar, disclosed that intervention from Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, facilitated by BJP leader Devender Singh Rana, has provided assurances of support in tracing Sahil.
“The LG has committed to liaising with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to help us in these difficult times,” he said.
While the Navy has also initiated a Board of Inquiry to unravel the circumstances surrounding Sahil’s disappearance, family members are adamant about transferring the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a more comprehensive investigation.
They are sceptic about the conduct of the Naval authorities, who according to them initially provided delayed information and are now concealing some other information about their son.
The family’s doubts deepened as they questioned why the ship, from which Sahil disappeared in Mumbai, headed to another destination, and then returned back to Mumbai after an hour of the reported missing time of their son.
These unanswered questions have fuelled their plea to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, urging them to entrust the case to the CBI for a thorough inquiry.
