Indian Oil launches Safety Culture Improvement Project

NEW DELHI, Oct 21: A Safety Culture Improvement Project named ‘SEED’ (Safety in Each & Every Deed) was launched today by Director (Refineries),  Rajkumar Ghosh at Gujarat Refinery. Indian Oil has engaged DuPont – the global leader in employee safety – for a period of three years. This  is being implemented for the first time in Indian Oil at Gujarat Refinery.
Speaking on the occasion,  Mr Ghosh said that behaviours and human factors are widely recognized as having an important effect on accident causation and accident prevention. Therefore, in addition to strict compliance of the existing safety system and procedure, improvement in safety culture and personal safety behavior is required to be addressed effectively for sustenance of safe working environment.
Recalling Indian Oil’s experience in setting up and operating refineries for more than five decades, he stressed that we must be open to receiving inputs and training as part of the DuPont engagement.
Further, he empathically conveyed that no target was  above safety. Each and every employee is empowered to stop any activity that is unsafe. The need of the hour is to educate, collaborate, empower and above all to lead in developing a safety culture in Indian Oil, where safety is at the core of everything we do.
Earlier, welcoming the delegates, Executive Director, Gujarat Refinery,  Gautam Roy said Safety is to be recognized as a competitive business strategy.
Sharing an overview about the project,  B P Baliga, ED (HSE)- RHQ, said that the safety improvement project is aimed at sensitizing the employees at all levels to remain vigilant about safe operations and to bring about cultural changes in their behavior towards safety.
