The victory also reflects that India has now emerged as the first choice at international fora amongst the member nations.
Elaborating about UNHRC, Balbir said that with its headquarters in Generva, Switzerland, it is a United Nations (UN) Body with a mission of promoting and protecting human rights around the world consisting of 47 members elected for every three-years term. It investigates allegations of breaches of human rights in the countries which are UN members and addresses important human rights issues such as freedom of association and assembly, freedom of expression, freedom of belief and religion, women’s rights and the rights of racial and ethnic minorities and added that this organization was established by the UN General Assembly in 2006 replacing the UN Commission on Human Rights and is since then working on its mission of safeguarding the human rights in the member countries.
Balbir hoped that by registering such a decisive victory and becoming member for three years, India would further enhance its prestige and standing amongst UNHRC member countries.
