Indo-American NRI delegation calls on JU VC

JAMMU, Feb 27: Indo-American NRI delegation comprising of Shashi Chopra, President Gandhi Global US and Retd Lt Gen Rakesh Sharma, under the aegis of Gandhi Global Foundation, today called on Prof Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu.
The delegation felicitated the Vice-Chancellor for his progressive initiatives in the field of education, especially University’s outreach resolve. The delegation also appreciated University for its visionary programme for the enrolment of foreign students at the University of Jammu.
Earlier the delegation was formally received by Vice-Chancellor and Baldev Ballowria, the Deputy Mayor, JMC who joined the University fraternity to welcome the delegation.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Umesh Rai quoted excerpts from the book of Acharya Vinoba, who always emphasised on hands-on experience learning of which Mahatma Gandhi too was of the same opinion. He emphasised on experiential learning and said that in this direction, the University of Jammu is taking various student-friendly initiatives and trying to develop a curriculum based on direct experience in order to increase knowledge, develop skills and clarify values. He further highlighted the achievements, University has achieved recently that includes constitution of the Women’s Collegiate Board, establishment of the Incubation Innovation Entrepreneurship Skill Development Centre (IIESDC) with the Verticals i.e Entrepreneurship Development, Skill Development and Career Planning, Business Incubation and Innovation (BII), Industrial -Academia Partnership.

Padamshri S P Verma, the Chairperson of Gandhi Global Family, emphasised the fact that these NRIs would serve as a bridge between the people of our country and the people of the United States. He requested that an exchange programme between Universities should also be initiated.
Ranjeet Kalra, teaching faculty, HRDC JU, presented a formal vote of thanks on the occasion.
Among others, Raman Gupta, Dr Alka Sharma (President Women’s Wing Gandhi Global Family), Sumi Seth (VP Women’s Wing), Jyoti Malhotra and Dr Vikram Handa were also present on the occasion.
