Indo-Myanmar relations

On his second leg of visit to China to attend the 9th BRICS, PM Modi landed in Myanmar for talks with the country’s President and also popular public leader Counsellor Suu Yu Ki. The joint statement issued by the two Governments after the conclusion of the meeting exhaustively deals with terrorism, terrorist organizations and the countries and organizations’ that not only give shelter to terrorist but tacitly encourage them and even provide them logistic and other support. Both sides have condemned terrorism calling it the biggest threat to peace in contemporary times. They recalled that an international covenant has to come into being that makes countries of the world commit them to eliminating terror in whatever form and manifestation it is and ensure the world without the threat  of terror.
It has to be noted that Myanmar has been dragged to fight terrorism that has surfaced in Rakhne State and which has resulted in the loss of many precious lives. Though the joint statement did not specify any country for indictment for providing arms and encouraging terrorism in Rakhne, it was obvious that known external agencies have been trying to foment trouble in the entire region, Eastern States of India, parts of Bangladesh and Myanmar. A conspiracy is working scrumptiously to foment terror based on communal hatred with the ulterior motive of destabilizing the State.
It has to be mentioned that the Myanmar Government committed to democratic and secular dispensation had to come down heavily on some sections of people in that country who had been instigated by eternal elements to take up arms against the national Government. Some blind critics have castigated the Myanmar Government for forcing Rohingyas to flee the country. They are myopic and do not see that the Rohingyas have raised anti-Government armed gangs who are out to disrupt law and order in that country. India has deep cultural, economic and neighbourly relations with Myanmar. India has offered more developmental projects for that country besides a number of them already underway. Moreover India is deeply concerned in the security of Myanmar and the border with India. India will lend all possible support to Myanmar to protect her sovereignty and territorial integrity. We value the independence, sovereignty and friendship of Myanmar and welcome its close ties with our country in fighting the menace of terrorism.
