Indo-Pak officials meet to review cross LoC trade

POONCH, Oct 8: The officials from India and Pakistan today held a meeting at Chakkan-da-Bagh to review cross LoC trade in Poonch district.
Director General Trade & Travel from Pakistan Mohd Ismail besides Custodian, TFO and nearly a dozen other officials during meeting with the Indian delegation led by Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Sajjad Ahmed Khan, SP Poonch Shamsheer Hussain, TFO Chakkan-da-Bagh Custodian Mohd Bashir Lone discussed several issues related to trade and travel. The DC Poonch raised the issue of early clearance of pending permits in favour of Indian people intending to visit PoK.
It was also pointed out by both the sides to request to their respective Governments to review the list of tradable items as against 21 items cleared, hardly 3-4 items are being traded at present via Chakkan-da-Bagh LoC point. The currency related issue was also raised by the Pakistani side.
They pointed out that for 28 days stay for the PoK residents hardly Rs 15000 in Pak currency is allowed to carry by one person and in Indian currency it comes to be hardly Rs 8000 which is insufficient. The Indian side assured to take up the matter at the higher level. It was also stressed upon to hold an early meeting of the cross LoC traders to settle their pending account disputes. The Pak sides however, claimed that it was possible only after peace returns along the LoC. Some security related issues were also discussed during the meeting.
The meeting which commenced at around 12.30 (IST), was finished at around 3 pm. Both sides stressed for resolving the currency issue of the traders to facilitate the trade and also increase the volume of the goods being exchanged at the cross LoC point.
The other officials from Indian side who accompanied included SP Mohd Rashid, TFO Balwant Sharma, DySP S S Slathia and Immigration Officer.
