JAMMU, July 6: Army and Border Security Force (BSF) today exchanged sweets and greetings with Pakistani troops and Rangers respectively at nine places along Line of Control (LoC) and International Border in Jammu and Kashmir while similar ceremonies at Chakan-Da-Bagh and other places in Poonch district were likely to take place tomorrow to celebrate Eid.
Official sources told the Excelsior that the BSF exchanged sweets and greetings with the Rangers at seven places along the International Border in Jammu sector this morning on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The main function was held at Octroi Post in Suchetgarh sector in RS Pura where a BSF team headed by Assistant Commandant Amul Kumar and Pakistan’s Deputy Ranger Ashiq Ali headed team met at Octroi Post in Suchetgarh sector for about half an hour and exchanged sweets and greetings with each other.
The BSF and Rangers also met at six other places along the International Border at Chamliyal, Manihari, Kanachak, Allah Mai De Kothe (AMK), Manguchak and Nikowal posts in different sectors and exchanged greeting to celebrate Eid festival.
At all these places, the BSF and Rangers spent nearly half an hour together.
Sources said both the sides agreed to maintain peace and tranquility on the International Border during the meetings and adhere to ceasefire agreement of 2003 signed by the leadership of two countries.
It may be mentioned here that peace has been prevailing along the entire International Boundary in Jammu sector running into about 198 kilometers during first half of this year barring few incidents of firing. No major infiltration attempt has taken place along the International Border in Jammu sector this year, sources pointed out.
Meanwhile, according to reports received here, Army officials of India and Pakistan exchanged sweets at Uri and Tangdhar along the Line of Control in Kashmir Valley to celebrate Eid festival.
The Army officials of two hostile neighbours were at the LoC for nearly 20 minutes during which apart from exchange of sweets, they also discussed other aspects.
However, exchange of sweets didn’t take place at Chakan-Da-Bagh and other places on LoC in Poonch district today but, according to sources, it was likely to take place tomorrow.
The sweets are generally exchanged at Chakan-Da-Bagh, Tata Pani, Mankote, Nowshera and some other places on the LoC in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
Sources said members of all community in Border Security Force celebrated the end of Holy month of Ramzan with Muslim brothers.
