JAMMU, July 14: Chairman of All India Backward Classes Union (Regd) Social for J&K, Mohd Lateef Qureshi has demanded that Chairman and Members of the newly constituted Dedicated Backward Classes Commission for facilitating reservation of OBCs in Local Bodies should be from amongst the OBCs in J&K.
Addressing a press conference here today, Qureshi said this is important to point out that the Commission has to work identifying the wards in the Local Bodies to be reserved for the Other Backward Classes. Since the inception of Backward Classes Commission in the J&K mainly from 1995, the trend had been to ignore the representation of the OBCs from getting their Constitutional and legitimate rights.
He pointed out that at present a Commission headed by Justice G D Sharma is already in place and it allegedly has diluted the real cause of the OBC community by adding several other communities. He demanded enhancement of quota of OBCs in J&K from 8% to 27 % in the Jammu and Kashmir.
Qureshi further demanded that Chairman and other members for the Dedicated Backward Classes Commission must be inducted from amongst the OBC communities.
