JAMMU, June 6: Stating that Industry and the service sectors have already suffered a lot due to lockdown forced by the Coronavirus pandemic, Y V Sharma, former president of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Jammu said that now the adhoc decisions being taken by the administration without taking into confidence the stakeholders are creating panic, fear, doubt chaos and uncertainty among the business community.
Sharma said that even during the partial lifting of the lockdown, the businessmen are being treated in a very shabby manner. “Business establishments were shut down without any previous notice but no body complained keeping in view the nation wide health emergency and with the expectation that the Government will come to their help but instead of helping the trade and business community, the administration is harassing in one way or other the shopkeepers, footpath vendors, daily wage earners and other small traders,” he lamented.
The former CCI Jammu president said the parking slots that were announced and on which the work was started and expected to be completed 3-4 years back, are yet to see the light of the day and the administration instead of giving some concession to the commuters and trading community (due to its own delay in completion of work on parking slots) are creating hurdles in the way of businessmen and common people.
Sharma emphasized that trade, business and industry are the wealth creators and backbone of the country’s economy and instead of putting them into problems, the administration should give them all possible help and support to re-establish themselves.
He opined that to address the problems of the businessmen community, to assess their losses and to give immediate cash assistance, a high powered committee headed by a senior Advisor should be constituted which should regularly interact with some eminent businessmen, office bearers of various trade organizations, industrial associations and service sector associations and take immediate decisions to avoid unnecessary hassles and formalities.
Sharma urged the LG GC Murmu to ensure that people during this crisis should be treated with kindness, sympathy, compassion and due dignity so that they can lead their lives with confidence, safety and security as common citizens are ultimately the asset of the country.
