An official said that militants attempted to infiltrate into the Indian side of the LoC, which led to an exchange of fire with the JAK RIF of the army. The Army effectively retaliated, resulting in the elimination of two infiltrators.
Following the encounter, a thorough search operation was conducted in the area, which led to the recovery of warlike stores. Among the seized items were 2 AK series rifles, 4 grenades and other ammunition.
The official said that such infiltration attempts have a seasonal periodicity and cannot be generalized. He said that the troops along the LoC are alert and their swift action led to the foiling of this infiltration bid.

The bid was foiled as security forces are on high alert ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. A senior Border Security Force officer recently said that the chances of infiltration from across the LoC increase during important events like the upcoming general elections.
He had said that security forces have put plans in place to dominate those areas where there is possibility of infiltration. “We have made vulnerability maps and the forces will conduct area domination exercises according to that. The forces are capable of foiling any such attempts,” he had said.
The Baramulla Lok Sabha seat is the most sensitive due to its proximity to Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
