Srinagar, June 10: Army today foiled an infiltration bid along Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector of North Kashmir killing one militant.
Srinagar based Defence spokesman Lt Col Rajesh Kalia said here that Army foiled an infiltration bid in Gurez sector of the LoC in Bandipora district today. He said that one militant was killed and an AK-47 rifle was recovered from him. He said that the operation is going on.

However, sources said that this infiltration bid was foiled three days ago when a group of 5-6 militants were spotted crossing the LoC in Gurez sector. Troops deployed along the forward posts challenged the group and fired at them. The group, however, managed to flee back. And today during searches Army recovered body of one militant form a Nallah. An AK-47 rifle was also recovered. Earlier, Army had recovered two pouches during the search of the area.
And Army this morning launched massive searches in Macchil sector along the LoC after the troops noticed suspicious movement of militants trying to infiltrate. The searches continued for several hours but militants had managed to escape back towards PoK.
In the meantime, the massive Army operation in which 5 militants were killed in Uri sector of LoC yesterday continued today. It may be mentioned here that Army yesterday foiled a major infiltration bid along the LoC in Uri sector killing 5 infiltrating militants.
The group of 5-6 infiltrating militants was noticed in Doba Sardar area of Uri near the LoC on Wednesday afternoon by the troops of 4 JAKLI. Five militants were killed yesterday while Army suspects one more is still hiding somewhere near the LoC against whom operation is going on.
The foiling of infiltration bid in Gurez sector is the fourth infiltration bid that was foiled this week by the Army along the LoC in North Kashmir killing 13 militants.
An infiltration bid was foiled in Nowgam sector of Kashmir, killing 3 militants while a soldier also lost his life during the operation. Four militants were killed in a gun battle in Macchil sector along the LoC in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Wednesday.
Army said that troops are on high alert along the LoC after inputs that 250 militants are waiting on the launch pads in Pakistan occupied Kashmir for infiltration. They foiled several infiltration attempts recently killing 32 militants so far this year.
However, few group of militants managed to sneak in this year and as per the Multi Agency Centre (MAC) figures 19 militants infiltrated this year till April.
One civilian was injured when militants attacked security forces early this morning in South Kashmir district of Anantnag.
A police spokesperson here said militants fired at two security force vehicles at village Vesu in Anantnag at 0500 hours.
He said the bullets hit a private car which was behind the security force vehicles, resulting in injuries to the driver, identified as Arif Ahmad Dar.
“Dar, who was on way to Banihal in Jammu region where he works in a construction company, was immediately taken to a local hospital,” he said.
The injured was later referred to SMHS hospital, Srinagar, where his condition is stated to be stable.
“About 20 empty cases of AK ammunition have been recovered from the spot,” he said, adding a case has been registered and investigation taken up.
Security forces today launched a cordon-and-search operation in commercial hub of Lal Chowk in Srinagar. Sources said that the operation was launched in the Court Road and the Bund area following inputs about the presence of militants there. The operation was later called off.
