An official said that security forces noticed suspicious movement near the LoC fence in Kupwara ‘s Gugaldhar area. The Army troops deployed in the counter-infiltration grid challenged the militants and they opened fire resulting in a gun fight in which two militants were eliminated.
A Srinagar based Defence spokesman said that over the past few weeks, there have been multiple intelligence inputs received about infiltration attempts planned through the Keran Sector.
“On Oct 3, specific input was received from multiple intelligence agencies, corroborated by Jammu Kashmir Police and IB about HM terrorists likely to infiltrate through Keran Sector, leveraging dense cover of forest and thick undergrowth. Accordingly, a joint operation was launched by Army, BSF and JKP on the intervening night of October 3 and 4 along infiltration routes and ensuring round the clock surveillance,” he said.
“On 4th Oct, around 2000 hours suspicious movement was observed by security forces from the area across the Line of Control and when they came close by, vigilant troops challenged, which resulted in infiltrating terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. In the ensuing firefight, two terrorists were neutralized alongside recovery of large quantities of warlike stores. From the recoveries it was evident that terrorists were heavily armed, well trained and equipped,” the spokesman said.
“This successful intelligence-based operation is yet another example of the synergy amongst intelligence agencies, Indian Army & JKP,” he said.
“Chinar Warriors stand steadfast to defeat the nefarious design of inimical elements to disrupt peace and harmony in Kashmir”, the spokesman added.
