2 LeT OGWs arrested in Pulwama

Srinagar, Sept 30: Security forces today foiled an infiltration bid by killing two intruders along Line of Control (LoC) in Machil Sector of Kupwara district and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition.

A police spokesman said that in a joint operation by Kupwara Police and Army, an infiltration bid was successfully foiled in Kumkadi area of Machil Sector in Kupwara district. “In the swift and coordinated operation, two intruders were neutralized”, he said.
“Based on an intelligence input generated by Kupwara Police, a joint alert party of police & Army launched a search operation in Kumkadi area along the Line of Control in Machil Sector. The joint team observed movement of intruders, employing meticulous tactics, the intruders were intercepted who fired indiscriminately upon the joint team. The fire was retaliated, leading to the elimination of two heavily armed unidentified intruders”, read the statement.
“The identification and affiliation of the killed intruders is being ascertained.”
“Arms and ammunition including two AK series rifles, 4 AK magazines, 90 rounds, one pistol (Pak origin), one pouch, cash worth Rs 2100 (Pak currency) and other incriminating materials have been recovered from the site of the encounter”, read the statement.
“The neutralized intruders were found to be heavily armed, equipped with sophisticated weaponry which indicates their malicious intent to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the Valley. However, due to the timely and effective response by Police and Army, their plans were foiled and a significant threat to peace and stability in the area was neutralized.”
“In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation is in progress”, read the statement, adding that an extensive search of the area is being carried out and further details if any will be shared accordingly.
A Srinagar based Defence spokesman said that there were a number of intelligence inputs that were received from Police, Army and different Intelligence agencies regarding infiltration attempts by a group of 2-4 foreign militants in Machil Sector of Kupwara.
He said that multiple ambushes were laid ahead of the LoC fence last night by the security forces.
“The area is thickly forested with extremely dense foliage,” he added.
The spokesman said that the infiltration bid has once again brought to fore the nefarious designs of Pakistan in supporting militancy and trying to disrupt peace and development in Kashmir.
“The high level of synergy between security forces and intelligence agencies has once again proved to be very effective in foiling infiltration attempts and elimination of terrorists along the LoC,” he said.
A police official said that they have arrested two Over Ground Workers of the LeT in Pulwama district.
He said that on September 20 and 24, two persons Abass Majeed Parry son of Abdul Majeed Parry of Ashmander and Ishtiyaq Nazir Dar son of Nazir Ahmad Dar of Ashmander were apprehended by SOG Pulwama.
The official said that today they have disclosed that they are working as OGWs of LeT. “No recovery has been made so far. A case (FIR no 260/2023 u/s 18,20,39, 40 ULAP Act) has been registered in Police Station Pulwama. Both are still under custody of SOG Pulwama,” he said.
