SRINAGAR, Aug 1: One militant was killed and a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was injured along the Line of Control in North Kashmir as Army foiled an infiltration bid and BSF foiled a Border Action Team (BAT) attack.
Sources said that 18 JAT of Army deployed along the LoC in Nowgam sector noticed the movement of two infiltrators in Tungwalibhak this morning. Army challenged them and one of them fled towards Pakistani side and another one was shot dead by the troops in a brief gun battle.
The searches of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, AK magazines, GPS device, grenades, maps, binocular, rain coat, Pakistani made medicine and a radio set. The searches are still going on in the area as Army didn’t want to take any chance.
A Defence spokesman said here today: “An infiltration bid was foiled in Nowgam sector this morning. One militant has been killed in the operation which was going on till reports last came in.”
Sources said that the militant killed was part of group whose two members were killed by Army two days ago. Two Army personnel were also killed in that operation as troops foiled an infiltration bid.
This is the third infiltration bid foiled in Nowgam sector in the past six days. Four militants were killed and one was apprehended in an anti-infiltration operation on July 26.
In the meantime, Jatinder Kumar, Sentry of a Border Security post of 38 Battalion BSF in the forward area in Tanghdar along LoC was injured when militants fired at the post this morning.
The BSF sources said that the alert troops foiled a BAT attack on their post and one of their jawans was injured. They said that the BSF fired at the BAT team and they were forced to retreat towards PoK.
Another source, however, said that the BSF jawans saw suspicious movement of militants near the post and they challenged them leading to a gun battle in which one BSF jawan was injured while militants fled back.
