NC, Cong assail BJP for power crisis

JAMMU, July 25: While National Conference, Congress and Kalki Movement assailed the BJP Government and LG Administration for power crisis in J&K, the Jammu Chamber of Commerce & Industry (JCCI) has expressed serious concern over the frequent unscheduled power cuts and inflated power bills, putting the honest consumers and general public to extreme trouble in this hot and humid weather.
In a press statement Chamber president, Arun Gupta said that what to speak of other areas, the smart metered areas are also not spared. The Government had announced 24×7 power supply in the smart metered areas at the time of installing the same but the assurances have fallen flat.
Gupta said that most of the consumers are complaining that the smart meters are running very fast as compared to digital meters installed earlier resulting in excess billing. He expressed grave concern over the inflated power bills after the installations of smart meters.
JCCI president requested the authorities to constitute a committee to look into the grievances of excess billing of the consumers and publicize the same so that aggrieved consumers can get their grievances redressed.

Castigating the BJP Govt for depriving the people of even the minimum basic necessities, especially during the ongoing humid and scorching monsoon across Jammu region, NC leader expressed serious concern of erratic power supply and drinking water scarcity.
In a statement, he said the unscheduled and frequent power cuts have become a norm that results in breakdown in water, little water supply remains available in the Jammu City occasionally and at times after days together.
He described the laxity of the so-called Double Engine Sarkar in meeting the requirements of the people as highly deplorable and inhuman, saying the concerned departments cannot shirk their responsibilities so casually. Amidst the unbearable humidity and frequent downpours, the Government’s inability to manage the power supply is causing immense hardship to the people, especially as the unscheduled power cuts have become a daily ordeal, disrupting lives, businesses and essential services, he added.
JKPCC vice president and former MLA Indu Pawar today expressed grave concern over the escalating issues of frequent power outages and the acute potable water crisis affecting various parts of Jammu.
Addressing public meetings at Kote and Bantalab area in the Jammu North Assembly segment, she highlighted the urgent need for immediate Government intervention to alleviate the suffering of the common people. She condemned the frequent and prolonged power cuts plaguing Jammu city.
“Unscheduled power outages have become a daily ordeal for the residents, severely disrupting their daily lives and affecting businesses. The administration’s lack of foresight and planning in ensuring a consistent power supply is unacceptable,”, she said.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Kalki Movement members today met Vikas Kundal, MD J&K Power Development Corporation Limited (JKPDCL) and raised the issues arising from frequent power cuts. They said that frequent power cuts at night are causing severe inconvenience to Amarnath pilgrims staying in Jammu and also disrupting studies of students.
The delegation said that PDD had assured 24-hour power supply in smart metered areas but regular power cuts are still occurring in such areas.Moreover, consumers are being forced to pay inflated power bills.
