Info Deptt hurdle in setting up Press Colony: Govt

JAMMU, Feb 23: The State Information Department has become hurdle in setting up Press Colony in Jammu despite the fact that JDA has approved land at Paloura.
The information in this regard was given by the Minister in-charge Department of Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies in a written reply to the question of NC legislator Devender Singh Rana in the Upper House of the State Legislature today. The Member asked whether Government intends to set up Press Colonies at Srinagar and Jammu besides a Press Club in Srinagar and if yes, what steps have been taken by State Government so far in this regard.
Replying to the question of Mr Rana, the Government claimed that for setting up a Press Colony at Jammu, the Board of Directors of Jammu Development Authority (JDA) in its 72nd meeting has already approved for setting up of Press Colony at Paloura but the acceptance letter offer is still pending/ awaited from the Information Department.
It further disclosed that after such demand was projected by the media-persons, the Government constituted two committees vide Govt order No. 942-GAD of 2013 dated 27-06-2013, one each for Srinagar and Jammu for setting up Press Colonies. Division Commissioner, Jammu is chairman while Vice Chairman JDA and Director Information Members. The same is status for Kashmir, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir- chairman, VC SDA and Director Information J&K, members.
For setting up Press Colony at Srinagar, the meeting of the Committee was held on July 9, 2013 in which it was decided that Dy Commissioner Budgam will submit Shajra Khasra of 40 kanals of land which will be identified by Director Information. The construction and development work will be done by SDA, it added.
