JAMMU, Dec 4: Taking a strong stance on road safety, JKPCC general secretary and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony today initiated development work on widening blind curves in the border village of Suchetgarh constituency. This move comes amidst alarming statistics highlighting the prevalence of fatal road accidents in the region.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the senior Congress leader said every year, hundreds of lives are lost on our roads. Tragically, this figure often surpasses the number of lives claimed by terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, he said, adding that we cannot turn a blind eye to this silent tragedy any longer.
He emphasized the need for the J&K Government to take immediate and decisive measures to curb this growing menace. “Widening blind curves is a crucial step in mitigating road accidents,” he said. “But this is just the beginning. We need a comprehensive plan that addresses reckless driving, poor road infrastructure, and inadequate emergency response systems.”
Lauding the initiative undertaken in Suchetgarh, the leader hailed it as a pioneering example for the entire region. “This is the first of its kind in Suchetgarh Block,” he pointed out. “It proves that true leadership prioritizes the well-being of its people over political posturing.”
“Those who previously represented Suchetgarh never even considered this critical issue. This stark contrast underscores the importance of electing individuals who possess the vision and knowledge to address our challenges effectively,” he added.
In a passionate appeal to the public, the senior leader urged people not to fall prey into divisive politics. “Choose leaders based on their qualifications and commitment to your safety and security. Only then can we build a brighter future free from the fear of losing loved ones on our roads.”
Prominent among those present were Sarpanch Shashi Bhagat, Tilak Raj Bhagat, Roshan Bhagat and youth leader Mandeep Choudhary.
