Injustice with Jammu

Sir,
I wish to draw your kind attention towards the injustice being met to 126 meritorious candidates for the post of Naib Tehsildar by JKSSB. Out of 126 disqualified candidates in the Urdu test, 122 belong to the Jammu region. This was disclosed in the Daily Excelsior Newspaper of 06.09.2019. This Urdu test for the said post was being conducted for the first time since independence. Urdu is not a compulsory subject at school level. Moreover, it is not the Lingua Franca of the Jammu region, and mere 5-10% people have the knowledge of Urdu. The aspirants from Jammu region had to start from zero for which the time allotted was not sufficient. Therefore, the majority of the disqualified candidates i.e 96.8% were from Jammu region. This clearly indicates the selection process is flawed and favours a particular region. .
Thus, rejection of meritorious candidates on the basis of Urdu test and formulation of such vague rules/ laws by JKSSB is gross injustice with Jammu region. If appointment to the post of KAS does not require qualifying a compulsory Urdu test, then why the post of Naib Tehsildar is not exempted from the same, which is subordinate in hierarchy. The working knowledge of the Urdu language can be acquired even after the appointment. Hence, it should not be stipulated as selection criteria.
It may also be noted that J&K is no more a state now, it is a union territory. Henceforth, it has to be governed by laws of Union Govt. and not the state where Urdu was important.
It is therefore prayed that such a biased criteria which deprives the meritorious aspirants of Jammu may not be imposed and selection must be made purely on the basis of marks obtained in written test and interview.
