Install water meters in commercial units: Taj

Minister for PHE, Taj Mohi-ud-Din chairing a meeting of officers on Monday.

JAMMU, Oct 22: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Taj Mohi-ud-Din on Monday directed the concerned authorities to install water meters in all commercial units in Jammu region within a month to ensure judicious use of water.
The Minister was reviewing the status of drinking water supply and irrigation facilities in Jammu division at a high level meeting of engineers and officers.
Expressing concern over unregistered water connections, the Minister strictly instructed the officers to keep a strong vigil over such activities and ask the people to get their connections registered for their own convenience.
The meeting discussed in detail the progress on various drinking water and irrigation projects being executed in Jammu region besides deliberating upon certain strategies to further streamline the completion of the same.
The Minister directed the executing agencies to ensure timely completion of all these ongoing vital schemes to avoid any inconvenience to the common man in this regard.
Referring to demands of engineers from various districts about requirement of small dia water pipes, Taj directed the XEn PHE store to provide the same to these districts within a week’s time.
While reviewing progress on construction work of tubewells being raised in various districts, the Minister asked the engineers to complete these at the earliest.
Under Irrigation & Flood Control, the Minister asked the concerned agencies to complete the projects within the fixed timeline.
The Minister asked the engineers to converge all flood protection works to cover maximum area under flood protection to avoid losses to property and crops.
District Development Commissioner Jammu Sanjeev Verma, Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control K. K. Gupta, engineers from various districts of Jammu division were also present in the meeting.
