Installed capacity of transformers 3-4 times more than agreed load: Vikar

JAMMU, Apr 4: Minister of State for Technical Education and Power, Vikar Rasool today informed the House that in most of the areas of Kashmir Valley, the installed capacity of transformers is about 3-4 times higher than the total agreed load of the consumers fed from them.
Replying to Calling Attention Notice by Javed Ahmed Dar in the House, the Minister said rate of damage of distribution transformers is increasing due to reckless and excess use of load by the consumers. He said the repairing time of the transformers depends upon the extent of damage and the backlog (pendency) in the workshops. The repair of these damaged transformers is being carried out in divisional workshops and Central workshop at Pampore. On various occasions, workshops are overburdened by these damaged transformers and to facilitate their speedy repairs, the department employs the service of registered repairing agencies (Private firms) as well as. In addition to this, transformers are also issued from Buffer stock, maintained at Central Stores Pampore, Minister added.
The Minister further said that during the current year, out of 157 installed transformers in Rohama block, as many as 64 distribution transformers got damaged out of which 61 have been repaired and reinstalled back. In Dangiwacha Block, out of 113 DTs 41 transformers got damaged during FY 2012-13 out of which 37 stand already repaired and reinstalled. Around 80% of the damaged transformers have been replaced within two weeks’ time in Dangiwacha and Rohama Blocks in Rafibad Constituency, he said.
