Insurance employees hold dharna against FDI

JAMMU, Nov 17: Northern zone insurance employees, under the banner of All India Insurance Employees’ Association today organised dharnas at Jammu as well as Kashmir against the Central Government’s decision to allow hike FDI in Insurance sector from 26% to 49%.
At Jammu, dharna was led by divisional secretary, NZIEA, Srinagar Division, Pawan Gupta while at Srinagar, it was led by president, NZIEA, Srinagar Division, AM Tantray.
Speaking on the occasion at Jammu, Pawan Gupta, said that allowing FDI in insurance sector, which is larger segment of the market economy is meant only for capturing the national wealth and hence they are determined to oppose it sternly.
He appealed the insurance employees to create awareness on the issue amongst the public so that public sector LIC and GIC can be saved from the clutches of market hungry forces.
He informed that 11 Central body unions and all independent federations irrespective of political colours and affiliations are going on strike on February 20 and 21, 2013, which would be warning to the UPA II to desist from going ahead with the reforms, which are destroying national economy. He appealed the public to be a part of this struggle.
