JAMMU, Nov 8: Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Wednesday they have busted a gang of robbers who were involved in several highway and parking area robberies.
A police spokesperson said on October 16, 2023, one Pintu Sharma son of Sat Pal Sharma of Kharak Kalakote lodged a written complaint with Police Station Akhnoor, stating therein that on the intervening nights of October 14-15, 2023, while he and some other people were going towards Kalakote from Jammu in their vehicle, they were stopped by a group of people at Kappa Gala area, who looted Rs 25000 in cash, and two mobile phones from their possession.
On this, the police spokesperson said that a case FIR number 281/2023 under section 392 of the IPC was registered at Police Station Akhnoor and further investigation taken up.
Followed by this, the police spokesperson said that SP Rural, Rahul Charak constituted a special team headed by SDPO Akhnoor, Mohan Lal Sharma, and assisted by SHO Akhnoor, Zaheer Mushtaq and incharge Police Post Chowki Choura, PSI Pankaj Katoch, to probe the matter.
During investigation, the police team collected various technical evidence and leads besides analysing the crime data of similar nature of offences of various districts and rounded up one suspected, Mohammad Kabir of Nerojal, Thannamandi, Rajouri, for questioning.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to his involved in the case and named four other people partner to him in similar nature of crimes. They were identified as Mohammad Gafoor of Gambir Mughal, Rajouri; Haroon Rashid of Thannamandi, Rajouri; Nadeem Khan of Thannamandi, Rajouri, and Danish Hussain of Koti, Doda, said the police spokesperson.
Further, the police spokesperson said that the special police team of Akhnoor conducted raids in Punjab, Samba, Jammu, and Rajouri and arrested all the accused named by Mohammad Kabir.
“The investigating team also recovered from the possession of the accused two Alto cars, as many motorcycles, two snatched mobile phones, and three sharp-edged weapons during the raids,” he said.
During further investigation of the accused, they confessed to their involvement in several cases of highway and parking area robberies registered at Police Stations Nagrota, Gangyal, Domana, and Jhajjar Kotli in Jammu, Manjakote in Rajouri, and Vijaypur in Samba Districts.
Further investigation into the case is underway as more arrests and recoveries are expected, added the police spokesperson.
Pertinently, the whole operation was carried out under the direct supervision of SSP Jammu, Vinod Kumar.
