Inter-state drug peddler held with 2 kg opium

JAMMU, May 21: Gangyal police and the sleuths of District Special Branch (DSB) arrested inter-state drug peddler along with two kilograms opium (afeem).
As per police sources, on reliable information, a team from Gangyal police station and the sleuths of District Special Branch (DSB) laid a naka at Kunjwani and signaled a truck bearing registration number JK02AR-8769 to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape, but the cops chased and intercepted the vehicle near some distance from the naka point.
During checking, police recovered 2 kilograms opium (afeem) from the cabin of the truck driver and arrested him.
The accused truck driver has been identified as Ramneet Singh alias Geetu, son of Kehar Singh, a resident of Chatha.
During preliminary investigation, the accused disclosed that he had brought the consignment from Guwahati and was planning to sale it among the youth here in Jammu and adjoining areas.
A case under FIR Number 56/16 under Section 8/21 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Gangyal police station and further questioning of the accused is going on.
Police team led by SHO Gangyal Inspector Aejaz Wani made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Sachin Gupta, DySP DSB Karanjit Singh and SP South Shaazad Salaria.
