JAMMU, Oct 25: Channi Himmat police has solved the mysterious death case of a woman police cop’s drug addict daughter and busted Inter-State drug racket with the arrest of three persons including kingpin.
This was stated by SSP Jammu Uttam Chand while addressing a press conference at Channi Himmat police station here this evening.
Giving details, he stated that on October 10, 2014, a girl identified as Divya Manhas, daughter of Krishan Lal (a clerk at Jammu University) and Babita (a Selection Grade Constable posted at PCR Jammu), a resident of Marble Market, Channi Himmat was found lying unconscious in front of her house at around 2 am.
On getting information, police team from Channi Himmat police station rushed to the spot and shifted the girl to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where doctors pronounced her as brought dead, the SSP said, adding that after completing legal-medical formalities, the body was handed over to family members for last rites and inquest proceeding under Section 174 CrPC was initiated by Channi Himmat police station.
During the course of investigation, the postmortem report revealed that the girl died due to overdose of drugs and police called the mother of the deceased to ascertain the facts, the SSP added.
On the statement of the deceased’s mother, two suspects namely Vikramjeet Singh alias Viku, son of late Uttam Singh and Rubal Sharma alias Chinpu, son of Mansa Ram, both residents of Talab Tillo were picked up by the Channi police, Uttam Chand said, adding that the duo admitted that they had injected narcotics to the deceased on the fateful day. They also revealed that the deceased girl was drug addict and use to take heroin from them, the SSP added.
Mr Chand further disclosed that on this the inquest proceedings was converted into murder case under FIR number 88/2014 under Section 302 and 120-B RPC at Police Station Channi Himmat.
During further investigation into the case, it came to fore that the two arrested drug smugglers used to purchase heroin from kingpin of Inter-State Drug racket namely Yeshjeet alias Kali alias Chachu, son of Chaman of Seera Damtaal, tehsil Indorea, district Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, SSP added.
He stated that Yeshjeet, who was operating the Inter-State Drug Racket in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh was trapped near Lakhanpur on Punjab border and was arrested subsequently by Channi police.
All the arrested members of this drug racket, use to supply heroine among the youth of Jammu and adjoining areas on exorbitant rates, SSP said, adding that some of their customers in Jammu and Kashmir were from “high profile families”.
When asked about the accomplices who dropped the girl home at around 2 am in the morning, the SSP said that the accomplices of the girl too were the consumers of the drugs and “hence they too are being treated as victims”, SSP said.
He added that according to call details of the deceased, around 32 individuals from “well-to-do families” were constantly in touch with her and the police questioned them all.
Some quantity of heroin was also recovered from the accused and has been sent to FSL, Mr Chand said, adding that with the arrest of these accused, the drug addicts in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh received a big jolt.
SSP said that police was still investigating the case and can make further disclosures in the days to come.
