Inter-State gang of thieves busted

KATRA, June 25: Police today busted a gang of inter-State thieves, which was operating on the track to Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan.
On receipt of information regarding roaming of thieves in Katra and Bhawan areas, a joint Police party of Police Station Bhawan and Katra, under the supervision of concerned SHOs and Dy SPs, detained five suspects.
The detained persons, all from outside the State, were already involved in series of theft cases at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi track and used to operate in small groups for stealing clothes and other belongings of the pilgrims. Some of them are also expert pick pockets.
During interrogation, they confessed their involvement in a number of theft cases. They were identified as G L Waris of Manlawa UP, Saanu of Kandel Ganj Kanpur UP, Mohd Sartaz of Kangi Mohal Kanpur UP, Gajinder Rai of Bhimpur Bihar and Raj Kumar of Sewan Bihar.
Eight mobile phones and coins of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi were recovered from their possession. Besides, these thieves also revealed that they had made their hideouts at Seemapuri Delhi. They usually come via train from Delhi and after making theft, return back to Delhi.
Further inquiry into the matter is going on. Their involvement in more theft cases at Katra and Bhawan is not ruled out, Police said.
