JAMMU, Sept 18: Jhajjar Kotli police arrested two inter-state narcotic smugglers along with large quantity of poppy straw (bhukki) from Suketar area.
As per police sources, on specific inputs, police team from Jhajjar Kotli police station laid a naka at Suketar and signaled a Toyota Qualis car bearing registration number DL8CJ-1477 to stop for checking.
On seeing police team, the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape, but the cops chased and intercepted the vehicle near some distance.
During checking, police team recovered 31 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested two persons on the spot.
The accused have been identified as Sonu Singh, son of Prakash Singh of Amritsar and Sunny, son of Balbir Chand of Jallandhar.
They were trying to smuggle the consignment of narcotics from Srinagar to Punjab, but their nefarious designs were thwarted by the Jhajjar Kotli police.
A case under FIR Number 107/15 under Section 8/15/29 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Jhajjar Kotli police station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Jhajjar Kotli police station Inspector Ravinder Singh made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO Nagrota Bharat Bhushan Sharma, SP Rural Rajeev Pandey and SSP Jammu Uttam Chand.
FIR No. 107/2015 U/S 8/15/29 NDPS Act has been registered at P/S Jhajjar Kotli and further investigation of the case is going on.
