Interaction meet on biodiversity management held

JAMMU, Nov 18: To sensitize forest frontline staff, forest trainees, forest officers, an interaction meet on Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) and people’s Biodiversity register was organized today at Forest Information Centre here.
During the programme, lectures on cultivated, domesticated, wild and aquatic and land biodiversity were delivered by various experts from different departments for conservation, utilization and benefit sharing of biodiversity resources.
Director, SFRI highlighted medicinal, economical, cultural and ecological importance of different life forms.
Dr. Jatinder Singh, Conservator of Forests, Research Circle Jammu spoke on diseases, pests of cultivated and wild life while Tahir Shawl, Joint Director, SFRI exposed the trainees and other participants with his opinion on information of wild fauna of Jammu & Kashmir.
Sanjesh Gupta, Dy Director, Fisheries gave an overview of indigenous and introduced fish species and other aquatic Biodiversity while Satish Koul Sultan, Dy. Director Floriculture introduced with the biodiversity parks, gardens and orchards. Ashok Kumar (Expert) gave his views on ethno botany, local medicinal plants with special reference to culture and religion.
Vivek Modi, DFO Billwar, provided the participants with legal implications and access benefit sharing of Biodiversity resources.
