JAMMU, Nov 16: All Jammu and Kashmir Oil and LPG Tank, Truck Drivers and Cleaners Union has expressed serious concern over the terms and conditions mentioned in the recent tender notification for road transportation of bulk Petroleum, Oil and Lubricant (POL), issued by the BPCL for J&K.
While addressing a press conference at Press Club Jammu today, Ranjit Singh Raina, president of the Union along with senior member Herasis Singh informed the media-persons that BPCL in its tender notification dated Ist November, 2023 has completely ignored the welfare and interests of the transporters of the Jammu and Kashmir. This would ultimately harm the interests of drivers and cleaners as well.
They further apprised that in the road transportation tender of the BPCL in comparison to past tender of year 2017, this time the number of vehicles ( Tanker-Lorrie), have been decreased from 300 to 225 and the capacity of requisite tankers has also been increased. The terms and conditions of the tender, require new model vehicles whereas the rate bracket in the tender has not been increased in comparison to the inflation rate of last 5 years for the same route. Union leaders said they would not tolerate this grave injustice and would stand with the Oil Tankers Owners Association as the transport sector in J&K is already is crisis and the Oil companies are hell bent upon to victimize and exploit this sector. They said the rates of spare parts of vehicles, tyres, fuel and taxes have increased manifold during last five years and quoting old rates is grave injustice and unfair practice at the part of Oil Companies officials.
They cautioned the Oil Companies to make amendment in the tender conditions, otherwise, Union members will be forced to resort to protest demonstrations and use their democratic rights against this injustice.
