JAMMU, Nov 28: Dineshwar Sharma, who has been appointed as an interlocutor by Government of India for the State of Jammu & Kashmir, during his visit to Jammu today, called on former Dy. Chief Minister and senior BJP leader, Kavinder Gupta at his Gandhi Nagar residence and discussed the present political scenario in the State with him. He also asked as to what more effective can be done in coming days for Jammu & Kashmir so that he can forward the same to the Union Government.
Kavinder Gupta, during his half an hour meeting with the Interlocutor, said that the State of Jammu & Kashmir has suffered a lot in the matters related to development during all these years of militancy and that peace is imperative to take the State into an era of progress and prosperity. The present Union Government has been serious towards bringing peace and normalcy in this border State and that there has been decline in terrorist related activities as the army and security forces are putting concrete and effective operations to identify and kill the trained militants.
Kavinder further told him that the firm stand of the Union Government has achieved tremendous success in checking the incidents of stone pelting and neutralizing the repeated bandh calls. He said that the faith of the people in democracy has further strengthened as large number of voters across the State came out to vote despite threats and boycott calls, which is indeed a good development and that the coming days may witness a sea change, if the Union Government continues to go ahead with its present policy of no compromise on the lives of citizens and no room for those involved in anti-national activities.
The former Dy. Chief Minister also discussed the issue of 5300 families of POJK refugees who settled outside the State and are deprived of the benefits which are conferred on those who are living in the State. The issue of West Pakistan refugees, safety of the Hindu temples and shrines in Kashmir, speedy work of road connectivity, taking the Union Government’s welfare schemes to the grass root level, construction of bunkers in border villages etc. were also taken up with the Interlocutor.
