JAMMU, Jan 29: Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) today inaugurated a three day International Cartoon Exhibition on Road Safety with 250 cartoons from 39 countries under aegis of eminent international cartoonist, Chander Shekhar.
A handout of ICCR stated that the exhibition has been organized to observe National Road Safety Month with the theme ‘Save Yourself and Your Family’.
The exhibition will be there from January 29 to 31 at Kala Kendra, Jammu.
The event began with presentation of bouquet to the chief guest, T. Namgyal, ADGP (Traffic) J&K which was followed by lighting of ceremonial lamp by the chief guest, guest of honour, Suman Gupta, internationally acclaimed painter; special guest, SSP Traffic, Shiv Kumar and RTO Jammu, Dhananter Singh.
Speaking on the occasion N.K Shil, Regional Passport Officer (RPO) and Regional Director (RD) ICCR, J&K and Ladakh elaborated that figures have shown that violation of traffic rules and discipline have been on rise across the UT of J&K which has directly resulted into traffic fatalities.
“The UT has witnessed high level of road rage and accident cases around 478 in 2019-20. Everyday four people are dying in J&K due to road accidents and many more are getting injured,” he said.
Shil emphasized on the importance of necessary road safety behaviour and measures while driving.
He said that Regional Office ICCR Jammu has decided to organize safe drive awareness campaign through the cartoon exhibition on road safety and appealed car and auto drivers to drive safely following simple driving etiquettes and traffic rules more sincerely.
Today 250 cartoons by world famous 150 artists from 39 countries were exhibited with powerful message on road safety.
