International Day against drug abuse, illicit trafficking observed

JAMMU, June 26: Interna-tional Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking was observed across Jammu Province.
Narcotics Control Bureau Jammu organized a rally to observe International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, in which around 300 personnel of J&K Police, BSF, J&K Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses (JKSPYM), Sport Office, J&K Taekwando Association Jammu and NGOs participated. The rally started from Nanak Nagar Gurdwara marched through Gole Market and culminated at Dusherra Ground, Gandhi Nagar. The rally was flagged off by Danesh Rana, IGP Jammu in presence of Sindhu Sharma, ASGI, High Court Jammu, DN Pangotra, general secretary, J&K Taekwondo Association, Palvi Singh, Project Manager, JKSPYM, Manoj Kumar, Zonal Director, NCB Zonal Unit Jammu, SSP Crime Branch Mubassir Latifi, etc.
Crime Branch observed International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. SSP Crime Branch Mubassir Latifi in presence of all the officers/officials of Crime Branch flagged-off an anti-drug campaign vehicle, which started the mobile campaigning in the entire Jammu City throughout the day, made the general masses aware through announcements regarding the evils of the drugs and also distributed pamphlets containing anti-drug themes.
The NSS Unit of Government General Zorawar Singh Memorial Degree College, Reasi observed International Day against Drugs and Illicit trafficking. In her inaugural address Principal Dr Kaushal Smotra advised the students to stay away from Drugs. NSS volunteers also expressed their views on drug abuse. A poster presentation was also made by the students. Dr Rajesh Sharma, NSS Coordinator of the College spoke on the importance of the day.
An awareness programme was organised at District Hospital Samba by Department of Health and Family Welfare to observe International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. While addressing the gathering, Dr Rajinder Samyal, Medical Superintendent of the Hospital threw light on the various issues pertaining to drug abuse and illicit trafficking. Among others present were Dr Vijay Sagar, Physician, Dr Rakesh Parbhakar, ENT Specialist, Dr Raj Kumar Bhagat, Surgeon, Manzoor Mohammad, Susheel Bhatti, DEIC Manager, Ashok Nanda and Vipin Sharma.
International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Jakh and Middle School, Jakh. On the occasion, the NCC Wing of the school under the guidance of Incharge NCC Gulshan Sharma organized a programme. Roshan Lal Gupta, Principal of the school threw light on the importance of the day.
Government Higher Secondary School, Chiralla, district Doda observed International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. A symposium was organised on the occasion, in which 14 students hailing from surrounding schools of cluster Sunarthawa/Chiralla participated. Principal of the institution Nek Ram witnessed the function as chief guest. Shamim Ahmed, Lecturer, Physical Education presented the welcome address. Rubal Singh of Evergreen Pubic School and Veerta Devi of Royal Public School shared first position, whereas Michal Bhagat and Asia Banoo from Government MS Bolian and Evergreen Pubic School Chiralla respectively shared second position. Haroon Ahmed from Government MS Bachhra bagged third position. Later, prizes were distributed among the winners.
Resham Garh Association and J&K Fine Arts Society organized Poster and Painting Exhibition on International Anti Drugs Day by Artist Suresh Sharma. MLA Sat Paul Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion, who while speaking stressed on the need to spread awareness and implement meaningful policies for addressing issues of anti drugs. SP City Shiv Kumar Singh Chouhan was the guest of honour on the occasion. SHO Bakshi Nagar, Inspector Dalip Singh, Raj Bharti, social activist, Artist Sanjay Kotwal, Anoop Gupta, Anil Sharma, Balvir Kumar, Ex-Cooperator Resham Garh Parshant Puri, Munish Sharma and Vijay Malhotra were also present.
