JAMMU, Oct 11: The International Girl Child Day was celebrated here today by different organizations and different programmes were organized in this regard.
Under the aegis of J&K Legal Services Authority, an awareness programme on ‘International Girl Child Day 2024’ was held at Capt. Dhrub Singh Memorial Govt Girls Model Hr. Sec. School Samba in collaboration with Child Welfare Committee, Samba. The programme was organized under the chairmanship of District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Chairman Samba, Ravinder Nath Wattal and under the supervision of Secretary DLSA Samba, Sandeep Singh Sen. Neemisha Rajput, Chairperson Child Welfare Committee and Sonika Sambyal, Member of Child Welfare Committee also spoke on this occasion. The resource person for the programme was Rahul Sharma, Legal Aid Counsel of DLSA Samba who threw light on the rights of girls and made the students aware about various schemes for girls.
Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) J&K under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha (also President IRCS J&K) and under the supervision of Rohit Khajuria, general secretary IRCS J&K celebrated International Day of Girl Child at Government Girls High School, Toph Sherkhanian, Jammu. The event was organized to highlight the importance of empowering girls, promoting gender equality and addressing the challenges faced by girl children in the society. On this occasion a free medical camp was also organized and free sanitary napkins were distributed among the girls.
The NSS (National Service Scheme) unit of Dogra Degree College organized a Slogan Writing Competition to commemorate International Girl Child Day on the theme ‘Girls vision for the future’ to raise awareness about the importance of educating and empowering girls. Under the guidance of NSS Program Officer, Simran Thakur and under the leadership of Principal, Dr. Bela Thakur, the competition witnessed remarkable participation from students from across various disciplines.
Women Development Cell of GDC Ramnagar celebrated International Girl Child Day-2024 under the supervision of Prof. (Dr) Bhavnaish Chand Anthal, Principal GDC Ramnagar. The events were organized under the Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women (Mission Shakti) Udhampur. Welcome address by Prof. Tanmeet Kour followed the debate competition and poster making competition which focused importance of education, gender equality and opportunities for girls to lead, innovate and shape their future.
GDC Neeli Nallah, Udhampur celebrated International Girl Child Week 2024 from October 2 to 11, under the guidance of Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr.) Seema Arora. Prof. Shaista Yasmeen, Incharge of the programme highlighted that girls should be treated with equality. Multifarious activities like oath taking ceremony, awareness through short film entitled ‘Komal’ on child sexual abuse, skit, Yoga exercises etc were organized on this occasion.
