JAMMU, May 12: International Nurses Day was celebrated today with great enthusiasm in various medical/nursing institutes across Jammu and Kashmir.
To celebrate the Day, Bee Enn College of Nursing and Bee Enn Nursing Institute, Chak Bhalwal (Jammu) organized a “Free Medical and Blood Donation Camp” in association with Bee Enn General Hospital at the Institute premises. The camp inaugurated by Kunil Bhalla (Managing Trustee, Bee Enn Charitable Trust) was attended by several community members. A team of specialists rendered consultation services to the community. Over 50 students, staff and volunteers donated blood at the Camp.
International Nurses Day with theme “Our Nurses, Our Future” was celebrated by Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing at their campus, Chak Bhalwal Jammu. The programme started with disclosure of theme by Principal RGCN, Rafiqa Bashir. M S Katoch (Chairman RGCN) while talking highlighted the importance of Nursing Profession. Anjana Bavouria (Director RGCN) in her speech encouraged all the nursing students to be skilled and knowledgeable.
The Department of Nursing Administration, Sheri-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences celebrated “International Nurses Day” with focus on this year’s theme “Nurses- Our Nurses our Future”. Director SKIMS and EOSG, Prof Parvaiz A Koul, while speaking on the occasion, said the role of nurse is critical in any medical setup. Dean Medical Faculty, SKIMS, Prof Bashir A Laway, MS Dr Farooq A Jan and Additional Director SKIMS Gulzar Shabnum also spoke on the occasion.
A function was also organized in Government Medical College Jammu to celebrate the Day. All the nursing staff participated in the function in which Principal and Dean of the College, Dr Shashi Sudhan Sharma was chief guest. A cake cutting ceremony was organized on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shashi commended the nurses for their valuable contributions to patient care.
To commemorate the Day, the College of Nursing, Government Medical College Doda organized an impressive function. Dean and Principal GMC Doda Prof Dr Puja Vimesh, while speaking on the occasion, lauded nursing workforce at GMC Doda for their dedication. The 2nd batch of BSc Nursing 1st-yr student’s session 2022-2023 was formally inducted into the noble profession of nursing by reciting the Nightingale pledge and Anthem from the nursing fraternity.
A series of academic and outreach activities were conducted during a week-long celebration at Command Hospital (Northern Command) which culminated today. The celebration commenced on 7th May with a walkathon, followed by a health awareness session children of Army Public School, Quiz for Nursing Officers, etc. Dr Shailla Cannie (Principal, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing) and Maj Gen Avinash Das (Commandant of the Command Hospital) also spoke on the occasion.
Police Hospital Jammu celebrated its first “International Nurses Day” in its premises. The programme started by lighting the lamp by Dr Meenakshi Kotwal, Medical Superintendent, Police Hospital, Jammu. On the occasion, Nursing pledge was taken by all the staff. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Meenakshi Kotwal said that Nurses are the backbone of every health institution. She gifted a microwave as a token of respect to all the nursing staff to be utilized during round the clock duties.
International Nurses Day was celebrated at Associated Hospital GMC Rajouri with full zeal and enthusiasm. The program was attended by Dr Jamee ul Hussain (HoD Medicine), Dr Chander Sheikhar (HoD Gynae and obstetrics) and other doctors. Nasir Khan (President, Medical Employees Federation, GMC&AH Rajouri) along with nurses of the hospital were also present. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jamil described the nurses as backbone of the department.
The Day was celebrated at Government AMT School Poonch under the supervision of Deputy CMO Poonch Dr Parvaiz Ahmed Khan, who gave a detail lecture on the importance of the Day. The function started with candle lighting. On the occasion, teaching staff and students of the AMT School were present.
BSc Nursing 2nd year students of Government Nursing College Gandhinagar commemorated International Nurses Day with great enthusiasm under the guidance of Poonam Paul (Assistant Professor). The Event was well organized by nursing students by making theme based Rangoli and Posters. Speech Competition and various other games were organized in the College premises. While speaking, Poonam Paul highlighted the contribution of Nurses towards the health sector.
In a statement issued on International Nurses Day, Medico cum noted columnist Dr Tasaduk Hussain Itoo said, “Nurses play a very crucial and important role in patient care and management and form a backbone in medical healthcare system. Let us pay due regards and respect to all nurses around the world for their immense role in patient care. I can say that we doctors stand nowhere without their presence — they form an important connecting link between doctors and patients.”
